Northwest held their annual Tech Ops Family Day event today at MSPC Hangar 5. This is an awesome event and I wish it were open to everyone, including the public. Not only do they give families the opportunity to play games, win prizes and tour aircraft, they also do a really good job of educating everyone about the costs it takes to maintain our fleet of aircraft. As an example, half of 1 thrust reverser for an Airbus A-319/320 costs ~$200k. They also demonstrated how NWA saves money by fabricating parts at a portion of the cost it would take to purchase them from the manufacturer. It’s all very interesting and enlightening to say the least. Another interesting sight was a new Delta Air lines 737 brought in specifically for this event. It’s really fun to see how differently Delta has invested in their fleet versus that of Northwest Airlines. Click the picture below to view all the photos from the event. Our friends Keanen and Carolyn also went this event and brought their children. Click here to see Keanen’s photos and blog entry.
