Lindsay: Welcome to Gogo. My name is Lindsay.
Lindsay: Hello Eric.
Eric Edwards: Hi Lindsay… Trying to view an episode through Hulu and keep getting an error from Gogo… Are you guys blocking parts of that site?
Lindsay: We do not support streaming of any kind on our service.
Lindsay: That is why you are having an issue viewing Hulu.
Eric Edwards: Is this a recent change?
Lindsay: No it has always been that way. You have been lucky if you have been streaming.
Eric Edwards: I see… Thank you for your time. This provides me with the direction I need for future purchases.
Lindsay: You’re welcome. Have a great day! Thank you for choosing Gogo. Fly classy!

Guess I’ll just have to fly Classy…. hehehe

That’s not unusual anymore. What was a surprise was that the interior has been changed out as well. All leather throughout, making the aircraft appear “truly” Delta. Even the safety card in the seat pocket has been re-done in Delta logos, colors and style. It’s not a quick process to merge two airlines but at times it feels as though it’s happening at lightening speed.

I had the pleasure of flying NW Airlink from MSP – JFK today on the Embraer 175 operated by Compass Airlines. This is a beautiful aircraft and was a very wise decision made by NWA to purchase it for use with this regional carrier. The flight was smooth and quiet, the aircraft was spotless and the crew was terrific. Although this aircraft is classified as a regional jet, it’s just as classy as the Airbus or Boeing jets flown on mainline routes and in many cases surpasses them. Bravo NW and CP for flying this wonderful jet!

The following e-mail was my mom’s goodbye letter to all her friends and co-workers at NW/DL as she prepared to take early retirement and begin a new chapter in her life. My mom started her career as a Reservations Sales Agent with Southern Airways in April of ’73 and prospered through numerous mergers and acquisitions, rising through the ranks to eventually become one of the most talented Airport Operations Education Instructors in the company. She has touched many people’s lives in her 36 years at SO, RC, NW & DL and will be missed.

________________________________

Sent: Wednesday, March 11, 2009 3:01 PM

Hi everyone,

When I was a little girl, long before my airline career, I used to watch Roy Rogers and Dale Evans every day after school. I loved it. At the end of the show, Roy and Dale would ride off together on their horses singing
“happy trails to you
until we meet again
happy trails to you
keep smiling until then…..”

They sang in harmony and I sang right along with them, feeling such sweet sadness. Sweet because the story line always let the good guys win. Sad because I didn’t want the show to end.

If you are reading this note from me, it’s because you have touched my life somewhere, sometime during my 36 year airline career. Some of you briefly and casually (but not lightly) and others of you more than you may have wanted to J.

I cannot express to you how much our working relationship / friendship has meant to me. I learned from you that southern hospitality extends far beyond the Mason-Dixon Line. Your willingness to support, assist, teach, tolerate and accommodate me have not gone unnoticed or unappreciated by me. I can’t thank you enough and will reminisce fondly about you all.

I have chosen to take the early retirement package and, once again, find myself filled with such sweet sadness. Sweet because it has been a good life. Sad because I cannot imagine my life without you all and the smell of jet fuel. I know this addiction will be very hard to kick.
On the other hand, I am excited about what my future holds, though that part is still a mystery. I keep being reminded of Jeremiah 29 that says the following:
Jeremiah 29:11 – ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the LORD, ‘ plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’
Sure is a source of comfort for me right now.

So, to sort of spin off my childhood favorite, Happy Vapor Trails to you, until we meet again!

Love you ~ Mean it!
/D-

I know my theme lately has been Delta, Delta, Delta, but I am truly excited about the potential we now have as the largest airline in the world. I see opportunity for great things and the ability to re-shape the indsutry.

I was in ATL last week at DL Headquarters on merger related business and had a few minutes to kill before my flight back to MSP, so I decided to take a tour through the Delta Museum (http://www.deltamuseum.org). It’s pretty remarkable that this place exists and the amount of heritage that’s preserved within. Although it’s run as a non-profit organization, surely there’s some layer of cost Delta must pay for this facility and coming from the very money conservative NWA, it’s remakable to say the least. NWA would certainly have found a million reasons why the facility needed to go and/or how to make money from it.

Anyway…

I find it commendable that Delta looks to preserve its history and share that with its employees, vendors and the general public. Shown below is a picture of the “Spirit of Delta”, a 767 bought by the employees of Delta Air Lines in 1982 and donated to the airline for use in passenger service. That ship now resides within hangar 2 of the Delta Museum. Click the image to view the other pictures I took of aircraft in the museum.

In addition to the “Spirit of Delta”, you will also find the following within the museum:

“Ship 41”, the first DC-3 to carry Delta passengers. Restored by volunteers and a core mechanic team, 1993-1999. Winner in 2001 of the first National Trust for Historic Preservation award presented to an aircraft.

A 1931 Travel Air, symbolizing Delta’s first passenger aircraft.

A 1936 Stinson Reliant SE. Nicknamed the “Gull Wing,” this unique aircraft served as an instrument trainer for Northeast Airlines pilots in 1941-1942.

Professionally managed archives of artifacts related to Delta and its ancestor airlines. The Archives maintains over 200,000 images, 1,000 films, and one of the world’s largest airline uniform collections in a museum.

Aviation reference library.

Temporary exhibits.

Replica of the first Delta station in Monroe, Louisiana.

An 800-square-foot museum shop, housed in a redesigned section of the hull of the first L-1011 ever built.

One of the (many) nice things we are seeing as part of the NW/DL merger is pictured here. This is a TV show on a DL flight from MSP to ATL. I can’t remember how long ago NW stopped showing in-flight entertainment but I am glad DL is bringing it back to us. It’s been said that this merger will combine he best of both airlines and this is just one example of such. DL has always been known for excellent customer service while NW has operational excellence. The combination of those two will certainly make the new Delta the most preferred airline in the world.
